Why don't they put up orange plastic snowfence between the piers? Instead of going out on thin ice, just put it in the fall from a boat, and take it down in the spring the same way.

Something else that would be simple: use some judgment when driving on the ice. Both these cases seem to involve incredible negligence on the part of the drivers.

It should be illegal to drive on frozen lakes, period. They aren't roads. The people who fall through are a danger to rescuers as well as themselves.

Funny how the guy who had a couple of beers will face prosecution. All the Hennepin County Sheriffs care about is writing the DWI ticket. I know, I watch them go really close to each boat just to see if there is any alcohol in the boat. Safety is the last thing they care about. Example the kid and his Grandmother going through the channel and drowning.. All they have to do is put cheap plastic fencing in front of each channel with a space only big enough for a snowmobile or an atv to get through.
