As I have opined in the StarTribune on many occasions, the Gophers need to play Eliason and Mbakwe together and play freshmen Buggs and Ellenson off the bench to obtain the best results. Welsh is the only guard who can substitute for Andre against top competition but can no longer shot the ball after the coaches changed Welsh's accurate shoot at the end of the preseason last year. Interesting to hear that Smith does not want the 7 foot Eliason to get shots, just pass the ball and set picks. As the other coaches in the conference also know this fact doesn't it make it easier for them to win the game against the gophers? Brilliant. You can't make this stuff up. The U of M is a great place to work.
