most of that is due to savings on Medicare that were the result of ObamaCare. Obama will enact his agenda, because the majority of Americans agree with him. Even the ones that don't think they do.

...The Congressional Budget Office analysis released Tuesday says the government will run a $845 billion deficit this year, a modest improvement compared to last year's $1.1 trillion shortfall but still enough red ink to require the government to borrow 24 cents of every dollar it spends. The agency also projects that the economy will grow just 1.4 percent this year if $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts take effect as scheduled March 1. Unemployment would average 8 percent. Have we seen and heard enough yet??? I guess when you elect/re-elect someone who has NEVER been responsible to run anything you get what you get. I wonder how this will be spun by the libs? Also, I wonder what the Strib was going to say in the title of this article? It looks like it didn't get fully printed. I suspect it would say somethin like, "Budget defecite estimated at $845 B despite the efforts of the Republicans to keep the unemployment rate high, slow down our GDP, put more people on the governments doll, and on and on and on...

A decrease of $255 billion is referred to as "a modest improvement"???????????? That's a reduction of over 23%.

Obama could easily slash another $330Billion off that deficit by cutting fraudulently documented foreigners off free education, healthcare, social services, public housing, foodstamps and legal services.

Once again totally ignoring the $14,000,000,000,000 that is already spent.

The CBO also stated the recovery will be weaker and take longer because of Republican austerity demands -- reducing the deficit today at the expense of slowing down economic and job growth in the near and mid-term... in other words.. Republicans are cutting off our noses to spite our faces

mexifrodo, you forgot to factor in how cheaply we get our food and many of the services that we receive from immigrants making minimum wage and how that offsets any fund spend on social services, etc. We could choose not to educate their kids, but don't you want them to learn English and grow up to contribute to our country, just like your immigrant ancestors did?

atoonce: You forgot to factor in the the effect on unemployment, jobs, wages and benefits of flooding the labor market for the past 30-years with cheap foreign labor. And of course you forgot the the envronmental impact and finacial cost of beffing up the nation's infrastructure to hadle the addition of 12Million people and their 20Million children to the population of the United States.
