2 of his 4 proposals noted directly conflict with the constitution and can be discarded as possible out of hand. One may conflict if done incorrectly. So what we are left with is what responsible, common sense people have been saying all along. This is a mental health issue and the healthcare president should be on top of that.

Nobody seriously believes any of this would make real difference. Doing "something" isn't a solution any more than "hope" and "change" are. Gun control is probably the ultimate "hot button" issue. America's gun owners are the "mother-of-all" single issue voters when their rights are threatened. Anyone at the Capitol would be wise to keep that in mind.

“Universal background checks on gun purchases, whether through licensed dealers or private parties.”

Even the NRA was for this before they were against it. “ a 10-round limit on ammunition magazines.”

Reasonable enough. “Improved mental health screening of potential gun owners.”

As these boards show there are a lot of unstable gun owners ”A ban on assault-style weapon”

We already had this once they just let it expire.
All these proposals have broad public support.

"Broad support"? It really depends on who you ask now doesn't it. I have yet to meet a real gun owner that will stand still for any of this.

"All these proposals have broad public support." - then you should have no problem passing a constituional amendment to strip americans of their right to self defense. I don't think the support is there for that. I wouldn't stand for it.

What Obama is proposing is as unconstitutional as proposing slavery be reinstituted through legsialtion. It;s simply not possible, or legal.
