"The calls resulted in enforcement action against three poachers with 198 crappies over limit, three walleyes out of season and two nonresident anglers without licenses. Restitution and fines were $1,550."-----really!? that's it??! 3 people raping the resource should result in way higher fines. Should be 10x that amount.

genericlogin,In a world of finite tax dollars I would rather see law enforcement target actual rapists instead of some fisherman you oddly refer to as raping the resource whatever that means. Since when did all of our rugged outdoorsmen become such bleeding heart environmentalists?

@jd55606 – When did “rugged outdoorsmen” become environmentalists? They always have been. Probably more so than the “tree hugger” crowd. Take a look at Pheasants Forever, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Muskies, Inc., and many other organizations whose members donate countless hours of their time and a lot of money to environmental causes. Lake cleanups, trail rehabilitation, purchasing land to rebuild wetlands, the list goes on and on.

davepark -Actually I think this environmental radicalization of sportsmen happened when more and more sportsmen started moving from rural areas into cities. Perhaps it is this increased separation or lack of outdoors contact that has caused many urban and suburbanites to feel an immense sense of guilt and concern regarding nature that many non-metro people find puzzling.
