But there's increased optimism after years of stagnancy on the front.

There is no money for a practice facility because Teague gave almost a million to his alma mater North Carolina to not play two football games. That ruined his credibility with contributors. Hard to believe he can get away with it at public school but lack of leadership and accountability is typical for this state school.

Reality is that U of M CANNOT compete for national recruits with existing facilities, including the BARN. Until there is a plan for new arena and practice facility, Gophers will NOT be a Big Ten competitior on a regular basis. Raise the $$$$; lots of Gopher alum have done well and need to put up or shut up. OR.....Wisconsin, even Iowa and others will keep attracting our top local players. And good luck recruiting a top coach when Tubby leaves without state of the art facilities.

The U is still paying off Mason, Monson & Brewster thanks to the kindness of Joel Maturi. Kill given 7 years when he originally agreed to 5 because the "job was tougher than was expected. What happens going forward? Borton? Tubby got a raise & extension he didn't deserve(12-24 Big ten record last 2 years) & his buyout went up. Why? No money for the U when they blow it on hirings like they did. You ca't make this comedy of errors up. Come back to me when you get serious about winning instead of settling for mediocre results. By results I don't mean a worthless third tier championship for the women's BB team or a late run in the NIT to pad your record after a pathetic Conference season for the men's BB.

I'm confident Teague will get this done and it must happen soon. It will cost a lot of money, but as I've told Teague and his assistant Benedict numerous times, "if you fill the seats every game at The Bank, you'll have plenty of money to support all your athletic programs AND have first class facilities". I hope the pressure's on Kill to win and do so quickly. This doesn't require some 'business magic'. It requires winning in your major revenue sports. The U has three: men's basketball, football and hockey. Two of the three are good to great now. The third (and the biggest of the three) is still a disaster and it will take action by Teague (I'm afraid) to solve this. Hurry, Norwood.

The U of M has plenty of $, they just gave UNC $800,000 and they are still paying Maturi a couple hundred thousand a year. They've easily blown the Millions of $ that a new practice facility would cost in just the past 5 years. It's not our responsibility to bail them out for their mistakes.

jackpinesav- Blaming the facilities is a completely baseless cop-out. By your logic, the U of M should get every good football recruit because Camp Randall Stadium, Kinnick Field and the Big House in Michigan are dumps compared to TCF Stadium. It doesn't work that way. Have the Gophers basketball team play a season in Target Center then if you think a bigger, newer stadium will magically turn the program around. The reality is, the Barn has history and charm like Fenway and Wrigley and that is better than playing in just another cookie cutter, concrete block gymnasium.

Would be well worth it if the extra practice meant the team could learn to shoot free throws.

I'm all for a new BB practice facility. It sounds like it falls in the category of need vs want. Get 'er done.

commonsense4u, it's interesting that u mention the "history" of the barn. This was discussed on KFAN recently and it was pointed out that the Gophers have won 3 Big 10 titles there since 1920 or something. So, really you're just left with charm. I think the barn is a cool, unique place but let's be honest in that it really has minimal history of success.

April24: Go to Wrigley. Older than the barn, and the Cubs are always terrible. But a great venue.
