I'm gonna put my Canadian penny on ebay for a million dollars.
"The U.S. zinc lobby has been a major opponent to suggestions that the penny be eliminated." >> By all means, let's continue to manufacture something that is useless and pointless using irreplaceable resources so a few "zinc executives" can have bigger houses and fatter retirement accounts.
"U.S. zinc lobby"... There is a U.S. zinc lobby?!?!? HAHAHAHA!!!! We are so screwed!
The U.S. should do the same; one or two cents over, round down. Three or four round up. Lobbyists should be made illegal. Our government is supposed to be working for the good of the American people, not just the corps and rich, greedy execs!
Yes, we need to get rid of the penny and also the paper dollar bill... I'm tired of hearing about this company might lose business, or that guy doesn't want to carry more coins. People lament government waste, here are two prime examples that are easily fixed!
You know the USA is in trouble when things are happening at a faster pace in Canada. ;-) Get with the times and get rid of the penny.
Lobbyist = free speach. Perhaps instead we should allow only people to donate to candidates. No union, no companies, no associations...just people.
My guess is that no business would round down, only up. In the U.S. at least.
A zinc lobby has the US decision making hostage. I am crying right now.
So they penny costs more to make than its worth. But all the other coins are worth much more than they cost to make. The government and its mint still gets ahead via the minting process. One type of coin shouldn't be separated out from the whole.
