We need to eliminate crips, not clips.

Nothing meaningful will come of any of this without focus on the "straw purchase", where a person prohibited from buying a firearm (such as a dangerous felon or gang member) gets another person with a "clean" record to make the buy. Without preventing this there is no background check that will keep criminals from acquiring guns through legal channels.

So, The President of The United States of America is inside Minneapolis Police Department's "Special Operations Center," which is where they train SWAT teams and Drug Task Forces. He's here to kick off his campaign for the reformation of gun control laws. It made me wonder..."Why here? Why this neighborhood? Why Minnesota at all?" The answer came to as I was waiting for him to arrive, and it's really sad. We all need to remember why this campaign came about in the first place. Because a mentally disturbed young man killed his mother, 6 adults, and 20 innocent children while they were attending class at Sandy Hook Elementary. The "Special Operations Center" only 800 feet from where I sit right now, where he is currently speaking with very important people about very important changes, was once an elementary school. Am I excited that Obama is no more than 1000 feet away from me right now? No, it's pretty damn sad.

President Obama is looking for ways to make our children safer from gun violence. That's a good and reasonable thing to do given our recent history. Gun enthusiasts ought to see if they can join the national conversation in a constructive way. We have had to learn the awful lesson far too many times, of how terribly destructive guns, in wrong hands, can be.

How will these laws apply to gun thefts? Oh that is already illegal? Seriously, all of you worry warts are foolish to think that somehow new laws are going to impact criminals!

Most ironic piece of the story. Mayor RT calling someone else out re: the lack of spine. The saddest part of the story is that none of the president's gun plan would've saved the Newton victims, Nizzel, Columbine kids, nor the Aurora theater goers. Its time to stop the dog and pony show and get back to work, president. Hope and Change in 2016 - Forward!

Why even waste the money coming here. Minnesota hands down has the dumbest electorate in the country. They will blindly follow anyone with a D behind their name on the ballot.

"Nothing meaningful will come of any of this without focus on the "straw purchase", where a person prohibited from buying a firearm (such as a dangerous felon or gang member) gets another person with a "clean" record to make the buy"................Which is precisely why ALL guns should be registered at first purchase (cars are, after all) and tracked throughout their history. If a gun is stolen or lost, it needs to be reported as well. Between this and universal background checks, an awful lot of guns will not so easily end up in the wrong hands. Interestingly, La Pierre is on video tape strongly endorsing universal background checks and is now saying the NRA opposes it. Insane. 91% of the polled public supports this long overdue measure, yet the extreme fringe/leadership of the NRA opposes it.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control = 56 million. Between 1929 and 1981from Soviet Union to Cambodia, Guatemala ect. This is proof that it can happen so if you can prove otherwise I will change my belief and if you trust people take out your credit card and give it to the first person you see and give them your pin number since you trust everyone but if you do not trust them with your money why would trust them with your life. We do know they have killed thousands of innocent civilians in the war or terror maybe some people just do not want to add to the total . I know I don't. In 2007 total firearm deaths=10,129 rifle=453 knifes=1817 Blunt objects (clubs,hammers,etc.=647 in 2011 total firearm deaths=8,583 rifle=323 knifes=1,694 Blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.=496 all dropping in number according to FBI stats
