Transparency is very important. I had a hip replacement at Mayo and the all the parts were manufactured by Zimmer. I read later in an article that my doctor receives royalties on knee and hip devices from Zimmer. He might of thought these particular devices were best or maybe these particular devices used were ones that he did not receive any royalties? Who knows? If there is the possibility of a conflict of interest, one would think that all doctors would address it. It makes me wonder if the Integrity and Compliance Program at Mayo Clinic is just window dressing.

Being honest in today's moral climate is equivalent to being naive. Just ask the financiers who have gambled, and lost, many times the world's money.
