Final three by Austin Hollins goes just as designed

Gophers basketball coach Tubby Smith has received plenty of criticism for Minnesota's inability at times to draw up and execute a successful play out of breaks. Consider his most important such play in Sunday's 62-59 victory over Iowa a winner.

Don't forget Coleman's shot from an in-bounds play with one second left on the shot clock. I've been a huge critic of the Gophers inability to even get the ball in bounds under their basket, but Tubby drew up a play where Iowa was so focused on Andre and Trevor that Coleman got open for an open 8 footer. If I complain when things go wrong, have to give kudos when they get it right.

Iowa bench 22 points Gophers zero. Elliott Eliason plays 19 mnutes scores zero points and Iowa gets 18 offensive rebounds and 35 totals. If that is good play we were watching a different game. Coleman is similiar to last year. Way to many turnovers everygame.

"Elliott Eliason plays 19 mnutes scores zero points"....Eliason played very well...Points are the wrong measurement to be used when evaluating non-scorers....Try defense, rebounding, ball movement and hustle...all of which he contributed.

The bench guys are very tight in games, we don't get a decent lead from the starters to give the bench any cushion. The games rythem is awful, we don't move we'll with out the ball, lots of guys just standing there looking at Andre Hollins like, "go ahead shoot it, I'll go get the rebound." it boring to watch tubby ball right now. I'm curious how many basic plays do they gave in offense, 5, 10? They look lost out ther on offense. Ug, yuk.

Joe Coleman, I appreciate your ability to shrug off a bad play and recommit to the goal, but constantly jeopardizing the team with careless passes is consequential. You are the weakest link in the starting lineup, so some additional dedication is in order if the team is to achieve anything other than a one and done in the NCAA tournament.

Sane09 Thanks that is the exact point I was trying to make. He did not play defense as Iowa had 18 offensive rebounds and 35 total. If you are going to play a non scroing big guy, he better get some rebounds and assists not allow the other team to get 18 offensive rebounds.

Eliason had SIX REBOUNDS, two steals, two assists and two blocks in nineteen minutes...Comparison - Mbakwe and Williams had six and seven rebounds in THIRTY-THREE MINUTES....Eliason also brought energy and hustle which was picked up by his teammates....How can you call Eliason out, when he matches the starting bigs rebounding in about half their minutes?

"We need to get more of a contribution from our bench," Smith said. Well, there you have it, the coach blaming the team. Tubby, Leaders OWN the problem, they don't blame others. Please relegate your role to that of head coach and recruiter and hire a strong offense coach. Good Leaders hire support that can help off-set their weaknesses.

Eliason played a great game. He was very affective on defense and in the passing game and even with the inbounds he was a big target to get the ball in to. It seems the Gopher's offense does not do much for a big guy...no low post action. Last year he’d get some touches down low, was aggressive and got the bucket. I would love to see Elliot and Mo Walker down low and work and offense around them some…mix it up.

"He did not play defense"...In 19 minutes, two blocks and TWO STEALS! (for a big, that's beyond excellent!)
