When it comes to lean manufacturing, Minneapolis Speaker Co. was far ahead of its time.

ARRey sez: Had the 12-inch Jensens out of my Ampeg Portaflex reconed at Misco back in the early '70s and they are still working fine to this day. A quality operation that Mpls can be proud of.

How interesting to see an article about this company because I was just thinking about it last week. When I was in high school in the late 1980s, we went on a field trip and one of our stops was a speaker factory in Minneapolis. I remembered it was off of 35W and looking up the old location mentioned in the article, this had to be the speaker company we visited. (How many speaker companies are there in Minneapolis? I looked at an aerial photograph of the old location on Bing and that looks like it.) I remember that it seemed to be a mom-and-pop operation. I remember the man conducting the tour of the factory was telling us they did specialty work. It is nice to see this local manufacturer thriving in our challenging economy.
