The sophomore, playing more point guard than usual, still found time to score 32 against Michigan.

Nice win for a team that needed it. The interesting thing about this game is that if you looked at the Wolverine stat line alone, you would probably expect them to have won this one. Out-rebounded the other team by 7, shot 49%, 8-19 from beyond the arc, 12 turnovers, 17 assists - pretty nice game. Then you look at the Gophers stats - 59.3% shooting, 21 assists, 4(!) turnovers, 9-17 from 3-point range. Holy cow! Hard to beat a team that hot on any night. Nice game again by Banham. I really wish I knew which Gopher team planned to attend each of the games this season. It would probably save a lot of frustration. Go Gophers!

She's scoring all these points, yet doesn't seem to be a ball hog, and is looking for her teammates. The Gophers seem to be a good matchup against zone defenses. Keep it up!

At least one Gopher team isn't afraid of Michigan:). Go Gophers!

One of the more complete games this season for the Gophers. They still had their lapses in the opening half (poor defense, too many offensive rebounds allowed) but they were much more aggressive on the offensive end the whole game. They didn't just settle for three pointers, they were taking it to the basket against the Wolverine zone D and making them shift and cover, thus opening holes for open looks. I hope they can keep this up. Banham will always be more of a Stevie Nash type of shoot first, pass second point guard but it is what the team needs now. If she can just keep looking to get her teammates involved in the offense rather than always relying on one-on-one moves with the rest of the team standing around, she will keep this team on the right track!

This team is better and more fun to watch when Rachel has the ball. Makes coaching a lot easier too, Pam.

I usually can't handle watching women's college basketball, but do so with my daughters who play at middle school level . But Banham is worth the price of admission all by herself. I live in Raleigh, NC area and have watched the highly rated Duke and UNC teams play with my daughters. Banham would have no problem starring on those teams.

I agree that the team may not be going anywhere this year, raymondb62, (except to the WNIT) and a coaching change is probably in the air, but this team is considerably better than last year's model. Last year at this time, the team was 11-11 (3-5) but had just lost an unforgivable game to a miserable Wisconsin team at home and had an RPI around 120 (weak schedule and tons of bad losses). This year, the team is 3-5 in the B1G, but there losses have come to teams that are a combined 27-11 in the league (3 on the road) and they have an RPI around 59 (including the Michigan win) with approximately the same SOS (around 48). The B1G is stronger, but so are the Gophers. If this team can clean up some of its sloppy, undisciplined play, they have a lot of potential (though maybe not NCAA tourney potential, this year). Maybe we just have to look at this in terms of smaller steps than we had hoped this year. JMHO.

InformedOne...coaching change in the air? We are stuck with Borton til 2017! I just wonder how good Banham would be with a real coach not PB. Until Banham wins like Whalen, the comparisons aren't even close.

I've heard several different contract end dates for Borton thrown around on this comment board but, as I recall, Borton was given a contract extension of six years after the Gophers went to the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2009. This means that she is in the fourth year of this contract and we are "stuck" with her until the 2014-15 season. If the Gophers end up with 6-10 record or worse, I suspect that this will be the last year that she is retained, however. That final record is entirely possible given the schedule and current record. JMHO.

OMG - Borton got Carlie Wagner to commit to the Gophers! After Zahui B. this year, this team may make it back to the top in spite of some of the coaching issues down the road! Critical mass of talent has to count for something! Go Gophers!
