How many years did we hear that if Randy applied himself, instead of taking plays off, could be the best receiver there ever was. Well, can't go back and do it over Randy. You will never be the best based on your effort.

Excellent point, privateeye. There IS much more to being the best wide receiver ever than being fast and tall, you have to use those attributes when the TEAM needs it; not just when you want to use them. The job description for a wide receiver includes running your route even when you're not the primary receiver; blocking down field; diving on loose balls and being a good team mate. Moss doesn't even get a passing grade in these areas. Personally, I'd call him the best pass catcher ever; far from the best wide receiver. Jerry Rice and privateeye are correct; it's about heart and a TEAM first attitude. They're part of the game and Moss had very little of either.

Was Moss the most gifted WR? Yes. Was he the most athletic WR? Yes. Was he better than Rice? No. He had some great years, and some bad ones. Rice's comments about Super Bowl rings, don't really come into play. He was on some of the greatest TEAMS in football history. His Recieving wasn't the reason that the 49ers won the Super Bowls. He was surrounded by great players, and coaches. If you match up Moss's 1st 3 seasons with the Vikings, and his 2 great years with the Patriots, they might be better than Rice's best 5 years. BUT if you look at the 2 players, and see their careers, there is no way Moss is in the conversation. My real question here is, If Moss was playing for 1 of the 30 teams not playing sunday, would we even be talking about him??? GO VIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
