Though no clear challenger has emerged for his 2014 re-election bid, the state GOP expects to land a "very high-quality" challenger.

While humorists everywhere would love to see Bachmann run, self-preservation probably dictates that she stays out of the race. Not only is Franken not a "pushover", he has been an excellent, thoughtful Senator who would "Kurt Bills" any GOP candidate that runs. Hmm, maybe Kurt Bills SHOULD take another one for the team...

Love to see a good candidate run against this Reid rubber stamp. He's done nothing while in office. Keep it simple, what was his vote on the budget.

despite his comedic background, Franken is a serious, able senator. moreover, he enjoys decent approval ratings in MN and is well-liked among his colleagues in the senate (of both parties). i just don't see the GOP succeeding at making much of a play against him in 2014, especially given their current less-than-favorable standing among the state's electorate.

Hi Al. How did your fight against that medical device tax that was in that bill that you and Amy helped push through that has already resulted in a lot of people being let go within the medical device community? Good luck in your political future venture. You have already shown so many your rock solid political agenda.

And here we see the problem with the GOP in Minnesota (and nationally): We have a state and federal govt. that cannot help but spend money we do not have and will raise taxes in order to so. Yet the GOP cannot find a reasonable candidate to run because they have their heads firmly planted in their _____. The party 'leaders' are too worried about opposing gay marriage, abortion, and anything proposed by a Democrat that they can't take advantage of a candidate that is beatable. I won't vote for Franken, but odds are I won't vote for the GOP candidate either.

In this state, given the previous election, I wouldn't spend a nickel, much as I'd like to, trying to defeat Al. Six more years. Sad, but true.

Oh lord, Bachmann?! She barely won a district that's full of christian conservative fundamentalists. Newsflash: most of the state thinks she's a lunatic. She wouldn't stand a chance in a statewide race.
