They can cut jobs or they can cut their stock piling materiel that they have building up over the past 10-years. And if they are short on airplanes then stop selling them to countries with questionable alligences.

The automatic spending cuts are a construct of Boehner's to delay budget decisions until after the national elections with the expectation that he would be dealing with Romney. The GOP risked big and they lost. Are they going to show the country, including their biggest supporters within government, that they have nothing left but "leverage" that will cripple the economy?

Defense Spending is the 3rd largest portion of the Federal Budget behind Social Security and Medicare / Medicaid. How is it possible to balance the budget by not making cuts across the board especially to something that makes up such a large portion of the budget?

PS... you can cut civilians or you can cut most of the over 270 ex-cold war military bases around the world. Eisenhower said it best.

"GOP states and congressional districts would bear the brunt of the $43 billion in cuts to defense, however, so it's unclear how much leverage Republicans really would have." So, the Republicans are threatening to throw their GOP states and congressional districts under the bus to get what they want. Hmm...we may see bipartisan support for these automatic cuts.

..."GOP states and congressional districts would bear the brunt of the $43 billion in cuts to defense"...************************ ******************************************** A third of the national budget walled off for use at the discretion of Southerns. That is something that needs immediate change. National defense should not be based on one region and its elitists.

it is about time one of the biggest and bloated parts of the government get trimmed. we would be overwhelmed by the waste and fraud in the military spending. people complain about welfare cheats, i believe the military waste and fraud would scare the hell out of us.

Let the cuts happen..., 800,000 screaming unemployed ex-military personnel might make the Washington Democratic Elitist's take notice of their ridiculous over spending problem. If not, they will make one heck of a good Militia for the coming overthrow of this government..., LOL, LOL, LOL
