"Violence is a big problem. Too many children are dying. Too many children. We must do something. It will be hard, but the time is now. You must act. Be bold. Be courageous" --- Hmmmm. Murder is already against the law. Adam Lanza didn't purchase anything, he stole his mothers weapons. So what good would a background check do? Guns are not allowed on school property. WHAT MORE LAWS DO WE NEED? I am sorry these people are victims, but I am a law-abiding citizen, keep my nose clean, and pay taxes. I would rather not see anymore infringement on my right to bear arms.

No surprise. A member of the congress that enabled a police state says we must use this crisis to seize even more freedom and liberty from The People. Big surprise.

I am sorry for what happened to you,but you looked that insane man in the eye and you blame the gun ????? Blame the judges and the system for what happened to you,not the gun.

We have more than enough laws on the books to control guns. Most of our problem is the existing laws are not enforced, usually because the state government claims they do not have the money to provide enforcement or claims of privacy rights for those visiting mental health facilities/doctors.

Al and Amy, you heard her, you must act now, please vote to come and take our guns? Oh how I wait for the day to have real criminal violence and murder like Chicago, Detroit, or New York. Over 9000 gun laws on the books right now that seem to be of no use, one more should make all the difference? You vote to take more and more of our money with out much of a fight, we should be as enthusiastic about handing over our guns, right? Tell everyone it will be patriotic?

Not one person talked about taking our guns.

Any legislator who so much as thinks of banning guns or other useless restrictions will be voted out of office. We did it before, and we'll do it again. The 2nd Amendment is not negotiable. Take heed.

I see the Glen Beck fans are out in full force. Simply, tell us why you need an assault rifle. No, wait, don't. There is no reason for one. Protection? A hand gun would be better. Further, if Lanza's mother would have had the hobby of collecting stamps instead of guns, we wouldn't be debating him at all.

PS... I agree with the Giffords' position on this and yes, I own two guns, and after reading some of the comments in the last month, I am thinking seriously about buying a hand gun, which is my right, especially when I hear LaPierre. We have laws in this country and requiring better background checks and limiting firepower is not against your basic rights. You can drive a car on the street, but we have laws against dragsters etc. on our streets. There are limits that we live with. You cannot own a fully automatic weapon. Does that violate LaPierre's rights too and why isn't he hollering about that? How about a grenade launcher? or a WWII fully functioning bazooka? All the Giffords' and others are advocating is that we extend the limits of laws to include assault weapons and extended magazines. Keep your hand guns, hunting rifles, and shotguns.
