Freak Speak: Moss reiterates his best-ever claim

Randy Moss made more than a few jaws drop at the Super Bowl when he shamelessly ranked himself No. 1 at his position -- even ahead of 49ers icon Jerry Rice.

There is no doubting Moss' talent and his impact on the game. All the more reason to wonder what could have been if he wasn't such a difficult personality.

Another reason to hope the Ravens win on Sunday.

No receiver in the game dominated the NFL like Hutson did in his 11 years. Nobody. The argument comes down to eras, and Hutson was the greatest by leading the league in receptions 10 of 11 and in TDs 9 of 11 seasons. It took over 44 years for his career TD record of 99 to be beaten by Steve Largent. Moss' numbers will be beaten in a few years if the pass continues to rule the league. So, if greatness comes down to a player's performance in comparison to his peers, there's little argument as to whom is the greatest--and Moss is not in it.

I think Moss at his peak may well have been the best wide receiver ever. Over his entire career, of course not.

Moss was terrific. I enjoyed watching him as a Viking. I wish the time w/ Farve would have worked out.

Moss is the greatest talent ever. He played with garbage QBs for most of his carreer and shared the spotlight with other prolific receivers everywhere he went. He made Carter better because Moss was always double covered. He made Culpepper look good. When Moss left, Culpepper's career more or less ended. Had he been drafted by the Packers, and played with Farve his entire career, he would have no doubt broken every record. Instead he wound up on the loosing end of Red McCombs' shady dealings, played with a series of garbage veteran QBs, and was too old to be Bellichek's number one buddy by his second season with the Patriots.

If Moss made Dante then why didn't he make the Oakland QB so much better? Moss has proven he cannot stay with a team so I can't see him playing with an elite QB his whole career. That much has at least been proven. It annoys me that he and he alone made the Vikings trade him away denying us fans of seeing him continue his play for the home team.

Seems like Brady had his best years when Moss was in town. Ah, they didn't lose any games for a while there. He made one of the greatest even better, but had a giant salary and was aging. With productivity declining after 3.5 solid years, he was dealt to a chump team in classic Patriots fashion. Better question - if Pats kept Moss would he still be playing this weekend? Also, the story i heard on Moss leaving MN the first time goes like this: Wilf wanted to buy the Vikes with Randy Moss, who was due a giant salary that McCombs did not want to pay.

as for the raiders: I think Kerry Collins started most of their games when Moss was there. He was so bad they eventually cut him for Culpepper (after they got rid of Moss)
