So what this article says is that most food poisoning occurs because of poor kitchen hygiene practices. The meat illnesses can be cured by cooking properly and sanitizing prep areas. Most of the vegetable illness can be remedied by good housekeeping.
This is why I stick to chemically manufactured boxed food. :)
"Experts repeated often-heard advice: Be sure to wash those foods or cook them thoroughly." -- That's it? "Wash your vegetables"? A lot of leafy vegetables these days are sold in bags that claim they're "pre-washed" and they seem very popular. Are the companies' washing methods not good enough or are poisoning cases from people not washing bulk vegetables? It seems they need to study whether washing with only water eliminates enough of the bacteria they're talking about.
Perfect, millions spent on another study to tell everyone what we already knew. Being clean keeps us healthy. Whether it's washing your hands, or washing your lettuce....doing so will keep you healthy. This should be front page news! Oh wait....it is.
How about more tollerance of gamma radiation to sterilize foods at the source and keep the pathogens from having the delivery stream to hop off along?
I ALWAYS soak and rinse pre-washed greens: spinach, arugula, Romaine, and always find a small bit of dirt in the bottom of the bowl.
LETS BAN ALL GREENS! ITS FOR OUR OWN GOOD!
So are these veggies grown in the US where we can change laws / practices or are these imported??? Worth knowing don't you think?
It is critically important to study where food contamination occurs. thousands of people have died from it. If there is a common cause with a simple solution, either in the processing or by the consumer, we should all be made aware of it.
