I saw "Argo" and felt it was a good but not great film by any stretch of the imagination. I'm really surprised by all the attention it is getting.
Director/Best Pic split has happened more recent == "Shakespeare in Love" won best pix and Stephen Spielberg won best director for "saving private ryan" at 1999 oscars.
@stingball, that's your opinion. I thought it was exactly what moviemaking is supposed to be. "Argo" was entertaining and great filmmaking all around. Not as important a film as "Lincoln" or "Zero Dark Thirty," perhaps, but still a great film and well deserving of its accolades. @underlm, the story was talking about nominations, not a split in winners for Best Director and Best Film. It pointed out the last time a movie not nominated for Best Director won Best Picture was "Driving Miss Daisy."
