The 10 year old son shot and killed his neo-Nazi father with the pistol his dad taught him to shoot, in Riverside, CA.

It's too bad that more young people don't have the opportunity to hunt and fish, and to learn the proper use of a firearm.

By far, the vast majority of young kids in shooting sports do it with parents or other close family members. And there's nothing wrong with family time doing something fun and safe. I don't think these are the kids we need to worry about and neither are the guns. I'm not a fan of the Nug but I think he has a great quote- "Hunt with your kids and you won't have to hunt for your kids".

Too bad this has to evolve into a gun owner vs. non owner issue. MOST gun owners are very responsible - and instill that responsibility in their kids when they introduce them to firearms! I wish ending the irresponsible and deadly use of firearms was as simple as increasing the obstacles to gun ownership, but it's not the responsible gun owners we need to worry about. There's a lot of truth to the saying "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns". Was I brought up with guns? Yes. Do I own guns now? No. By personal choice. But I don't worry about several of my neighbors who own guns, legally and responsibly. I worry more about certain unstable people in the world, who may use a knife, or a car, or a baseball bat, or yes, even a gun that they've somehow obtained, to settle a score, or to prove a point. It isn't the gun that I worry about.

My father in law was on the rifle team in high school. He'd just get on the city bus with his rifle ( a .22) and go to school with it. Times sure have changed. Must be the guns fault.

I really can't find fault with any of the previous arguments. There is a difference between encouraging gun ownership and marketing to a certain group of people. They shouldn't be desperate for new customers. Their guns are selling like hotcakes all over the world and demand for their product will never cease. If their emphasis was on gun safety courses I'd think differently about this but it seems like a desperate effort to get guns into the hands of every child in the U.S.

Teaching young people firearms safety makes us safer. This is a good thing.
