Smart moves off the field and sharp play on it have allowed Boston to surpass the Yankees in supremacy.

You know, I wasn't a big fan of Red Sox, and I still am not but I do admire them. I went to one last Boston series of the season in 2007. I was taken with how dedicated the fan base was there and how friendly every one was in Boston. That is a tradition rich city and Fenway is one of the best venues in baseball. It's hard not to get caught up in all of the tradition. They have a good thing going there and it's hard not to be a little jealous of it. I only hope that our new ball park captures some of that atmosphere and Minnesota becomes that kind of a baseball town. Ehhh...maybe when the Vikings leave. ;) Nice article Mr. Souhan. I always enjoy your takes.

I have not forgiven Boston fans for what they did to Jim Eisenreich when he was a rookie centerfielder with the Twins. Knowing that he suffered from Taurette's Syndrome and, without meds, was prone to developing an uncontrollable twitch while under stress, they unmercifully taunted him for two days in a row, causing him to have to leave the field mid-inning both days. Since then, Boston will always be BUSH LEAGUE in my mind!!

I agree about Red Sox fans. I spoke with a relative who attended Friday night's game and watched a "Red Sox nation" guy (an adult) push a kid out of his way so he could make the catch on a foul ball into the stands. The Red Sox fans in this group were loud and obnoxious. Where is Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, when you need him?

What's to like about a team that has bottomless pockets???? Only two or three teams have won the world series in the last fifteen years that have been in the bottom half a payroll. I am a loyal Twins fan but do we really matter. It's fun to watch us steal a couple games from the Sox in the dome but in the end we're a farm club for the Angles, Mets, Sox and in a few years we'll lose which ever talents we actually develop. I think the Sox are a good club, but come on, what could the Twins do with an added 70 million a year added to their payroll.

How many words do you try and write Souhan? Your articles always say they're three pages, I don't know why I take the bait. The third page is always the same...

I was at Sunday night's game, and was seated smack dab in the middle of a bunch of fans (including my wife) from the Red Sox Nation. I did my best to carry the water for the Twins, but I felt like I was cheering in a library. I was able to stem the tide of the "Lets go Red Sox" cheers in my section by convincing them that the cheer was bad luck (it worked), but the Minnesota fans need to step it up. Twins territory indeed!

The players union struck over the issue of near-equal payrolls in 1996 to maximize their salaries. How can I admire the Boston players when their greed contributes largely to the system of 8 or 9 real major league teams & the rest glorified AAA teams. How can one admire the Red Sox management when they can buy their way out of mistakes & build depth and add the players they need in July. I'm a former Twins lover, attended both World Series victories, but I've lost hope when Boston (& others) can outspend the Twins by a multiple of two & three. God bless the fans that continue to support the Twins - I feel stupid supporting MLB's payroll disparity and lack of competitive balance.

Yes, you can admire the collected players, but not the way they were collected. For every Ellsbury, there's a Beckett, Schilling, Ramirez,etc...

why did the twins give up ortiz for nothing. why didn't they sign J.D. Drew when he was right under their nose with the Saints for one and 1/2 years. the loss of hunter and silva shows what a joke the twins organization is.
