Thankbho - is your comment directed at the story or are you just stating a general opinion? Unions have nothing to do with the management of the Minneapolis Fire Department. However, you do get a good picture of the effectiveness of management and leadership in government agencies and can start to see why unions are successful in negotiations, arbitrations and lawsuits.

"Segal said the $175,000 could have been "significantly" higher if left to the courts. She said Kidd's three attorneys each charge $400 an hour." It would have been about $424/hr if Daytons new service tax kicks in. The horror. It might cut into business.

Right, brainiac, Unions had NOTHING to do with our tax dollars paying off another unqualified liberal whiner. You people are SMART. Published on Apr 2, 2012 Jean Kidd, Captain, Minneapolis Fire Department, with 27 years on the force, talks about how her union, Firefighters Local 82, has supported equal pay and opportunity for her and women in the department and stood up for safety. Right to work legislation, she says, is a strategy to take away the voice of working people in the political arena.

thankbho is right. Jackson was a product of unionism. Is Minneapolis going to get reimbursed out of his pension?

Another half a million that could/should have gone to fund unfunded pensions. Oh, it did - one fire captain and some lawyers!!

A pretty glaring example of the competance of city administrters, thepeople of the city should be glad the mayor is stepping down since this is his legacy of incompetance

Not that it really matters but do her lawyers get paid by the hour or are they charging a percentage? Seems like it would be a pretty easy fact to determine for this article.
