The musicians should reject any offer and go start their own troupe. This way they can control their own destinies. Why these type of organizations don't do this more often bewilders me. They can hire their own mgt company and pay themselves their lofty salaries they think they deserve.

They can hire their own mgt company and pay themselves their lofty salaries they think they deserve---- your point, i'm Guessing, is that they could not sutain their salary levels in a free market

The free market does not, and should not, govern entertainment that is and should be seen as a community asset. Ticket revenue pays a small fraction of musicians' wages. Think ticket revenue and TV contracts pay through the "free market" everything the Minnesota Vikings "need" to pay their players ? Hardly. If "we" can afford a billion-dollar stadium we can certainly afford to support musicians who necessarily need a nonprofit organization to seek grants for them, provide them group health care, etc.

The free market does not, and should not, govern entertainment that is and should be seen as a community asset ----- ah, so entertainment gets a pass and should be funded at whatever levels a very small number of people say it should be funded at, paying some arbitrarily high salaries to is members. How did you come by the salary levels? By competing with other groups to obtain the best talent? Ok, so you are in support or not in support of the free market?

The Vikings often sell out 65,000 seats and millions more tune in to watch on T.V. While the SPCO will play to a few hundred people. Just the beginning of why these two entities and their funding is not comparable in any way.
