Americans get fewer days off than workers in most countries, yet still don't take all the time they're allowed.

It sad to see this, and Obamacare tax hikes will make it even harder for Americans to enjoy a vacation.

@greg62 maybe it's because people are making less and are expected to do more in their jobs that they a)cannot afford a vacation because of stagnant wages; b)they fear the workload they'll have to deal with when they return or c)fear they'll lose their job by taking the time away.

What's this vacation thing you speak of?

Frankly, people who don't take all their allotted paid vacation days have lost perspective on the joy of living. I like my work but I do it to make money so I can do the other things in my life that I consider to be fun - traveling, having a nice car, a nice house with a pool, etc. You weren't put on this earth to just work - you were put here to live.

I dont think people have lost perspective or the joy to live. I was off over Christmas and New Years. Other then the holiday itself, i worked every day. Same on MLK day. why? cause there is so much to do and i cannot get it done working 8 hours. And much of our business is overseas and they are working even though we may be off. I wil probably give away 5 days this year. will get too far behind if i wasnt in the "system" for 5 days.

I think many more people are afraid they'll lose their job than these surveys indicate.
