Isn't that special. I imagine it will go up considerably again now since gas prices jumped by 40 cents a gallon in the last week. The sky's the limit Exxon. Oh, on second thought, there is NO limit on greed is there!
It's said we have an oil addiction. I think the term addiction is overused. I understand that when it's done the user is attempting to compare something as if it were as distasteful as perhaps a drug addiction, such as alcohol addiction. Anyway, we likely don't have an oil addiction, since many people would choose not to use it if they had any kind of alternatives (of course, they typically do, but may not see them or like them or be ready to adjust, anyway that's not the point). No, what we probably have is a money addiction and the oil industry is the best source of that. As stated in the article, Exxon is a public company. Their stock is held by a fairly large segment of the US population, although sometimes unknowingly. For instance, many mutual funds and retirement accounts often contain portfolios of stocks and it would be stupid of the funds managers to not to have some Exxon. Who is doing better than them? So that terrible Exxon is us. So, come on, you know you like it. Screw the future, lets get our cash and party. By the way, we do have an alternatives. Electric vehicles have attained some very important milestones recently, and despite the presses constant haranguing about safety and range anxiety and our politicians attempts to stuff any positive advancements many people know better than to listen to these buffoons. It's also hard to get the cowed to take their heads out of the brainwash box. Oh yes, the milestones, well, there are now three electric vehicles for sale in the US that when total cost of ownership and operation are considered are less expensive than owning and operating a four cylinder 5 speed manual transmission economy car that cost 14 K to purchase. These are the Nissan Leaf, the Coda sedan and the Smart EV. The other thing that is about to happen is that Tesla motors will have a profitable quarter some time in the next year. Or course, the people who make money on these are not typically the people who make money on oil, which of course we know is us.
