Spot on column. Jim hit all the right points. I watched the game and could not believe how flustered and unprepared the Gophers looked. When the players are confused,it is up to the coach to get them on the same page.

Under the terms of Smith's new $2 million per year contract, signed this past summer, he cannot be fired mid-season (like Dan Monson) and if fired without cause during the off-season, is due to receive a $2.5 million buyout. Bottom-line: Smith can mope, complain, and lose all he wants this season, and there will be no repercussions until at least season's end...and even then, Smith stands to increase his wealth substantially, no matter what. Minnesotans get stuck with the deal--and the bill.

Who would the gophers get if Tubby retires???? The man has over 600 wins. Let's wait until the end of the season to judge Tubby. (Didn't Mr. Souhan say that about Ponder - only to rip him two weeks later?) They have only 1 bad loss to Northwestern. The other losses have been to Duke, Michigan, and Indiana - all championship contenders. I don't like the way Tubby blames the athletes after losses -but realistically, do you really think the university could bring in anyone that would do a better job than Tubby?

Too bad Shaka Smart didn't come along with Norwood Teague from VCU. Why they gave Tubby an extension based on his record and results is beyond me. If they don't pull out of this "funk" I am done as a season ticket holder.
