Imagine a future where everyone is dependent on the welfare state.
Nothing new. Plenty of economists and prognosticators are saying this is already here. More income is going to capital and less to labor. A consumer economy can't last
redistribution always solves everything!!!!
Capitalism will eventually fail, but bring about a more enlightened age where people will work for the betterment of society as a whole. Amassing wealth will no longer be the motivation of humanity.
Science fiction writers have written about this as long as the has genre existed. However, what was supposed to happen was that machines would take over work, and people would enjoy a life of leisure, doing things they want to do, even working, but at something they loved to work at. Even in the 1970's economists wrote of the coming 3 or 4 day work week. Since then our trickle up economy has reversed that. A handful of people will live that life, while the vast majority will live in poverty. It is a perversion of where we thought we were headed, to the oppressive direction of where we are inevitably headed.
Only a true democracy will combat the Wealthy and their purchased elected representative. If we can vote on American Idol we can have a true democracy.
