Both parties collude to keep the filibuster in place so these politicians can do nothing in 6 years. The US political system is moribund and has become a joke. It is time Americans put aside party allegiance and threw out all incumbents to reform the system.
At no other time in US history has this tactic been so egregiously abused. The GOP employed it 360 times since 2008, quadrupling any other time
in history for the same number of years. The filibuster absolutely should be returned to a "talking" one because it's just terribly wrong that any right winger who has a whim to stop not only voting on a bill or a nomination but even debate on it simply by phoning in his intention to "put a stop on it". This is not the way to govern, solve problems, or even engage in debate. For most of our history, the filibuster was a measure of last resort for only significant legislation. Since the Tea Party infested Congress, it's used for virtually everything.
