With 10 speeding tickets issued in the first month after a new east-west section on 147th Street in Apple Valley opened, some feel the 35 mph speed limit is too low.

Well is it a street or a road? It looks like a stroad, a worthless combination of a street and road that fails to serve adjacent land uses (the purpose of a street) and fails to quickly and safely move people (the purpose of a road). See also: Car sewer. And why ask MnDOT to study 147th *street*??? MnDOT knows roads, not streets, and they will not know how to properly treat this facility. This is a fundamental distinction that our society seems to have forgotten and we're paying the price!

Having driven the streets around this area for many years I can say that MOST folks stay reasonably close to the posted limit. However, it is apparent watching the speeders go by that most have no idea WHAT the speed limit is & really do not care. (God help you if you happen to get in front of one of them and choose to only exceed the limit by a little to keep them off your bumper.) If you don't want to see the rotating red lights, don't speed. It's that simple. The cops are doing the job that we pay them for and they are NOT persecuting anybody.
