This is for the ignorant. The pipeline already exists the problem is it ends at the refineres in the midwest like the koch refinery in rosemount. The proposed pipeline would go all the way to the gulf so it could be refined in texas and then exported. The cost of gasoline would go up in the states because now the canadiens have a limited market. If the pipeline is built we get all the polution from the refining process and we get higher prices. The real dirty little secret that no one is talking about is gasoline is the U.S.'s number one export and if we build this pipeline we will export even more petroleum products. This will not help fuel costs for "We the People" but will increase corporate profits and the energy companies will give vwery generous campaign contributions. Just another way corporations poison us for higher profits while telling us its for our own good. Want the pipeline? Make the exportation of petroleum illegal. That would make Japan unhappy because 100% of Alaskan oil goes to Japan not the U.S. Still think lack of production is the problem? Still think the pipeline is a good idea? We pay to build a pipeline and pay for the security and get less oil and higher prices for our trouble. Exxon uses their tens of billions in profits to buy more than tax free status they buy influence and make sure we don't get away from fossil fuels. The last election could have been entirely funded by a day or 2 of oil company profits. "We the people" don't stand a chance, they own the politicians.
