We need not only higher gas taxes, but ones that revolve around the PRICE of gas, not just the volume of gas people are buying. that way it can adjust itself for inflation.
hit the people the hardest you can least afford it, bright move once again Wisconsin.
WIsconsin is as sad as Minnesota, dont ever cut anything just raise taxes, lets see hmmm, theres gas, alcohol, tobacco and those darn rich people we can get money from. problem solved lets spend away.
His royal highness, Grover Norquist would never allow the Republicans to implement this in Wisconsin.
Why are people so opposed to higher gas taxes? It's a USER FEE. Don't want to pay it? You don't have to! Just reduce your driving.
Gas taxes should be used to generate revenue. It disproportionately impacts the higher earners who CHOOSE to live where they do. The further away you live from where you work, go to school, worship, or shop, the more taxes you should pay in the form of a gas tax.... and I AM a high earner who drives an hour each way, everyday to work in a pickup or SUV (depends on the day). I embrace the gas tax because it is the cost I am able and willing to pay- for my kids to be able to play in my yard and not get shot at. So be it.
Raising the gas tax 5 cents per gallon, the first increase since 2006, which would bring in $159 million a year. The tax currently is 30.9 cents a gallon. - Funny how people complain that the oil companies are gouging the consumer and they only make 6 cents a gallon. I guess government is all out raping people at 30 cents. Imagine that!
antisuburbs: We need not only higher gas taxes, but ones that revolve around the PRICE of gas, not just the volume of gas people are buying. - Can't wait to hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth when all your food staples are varying prices every time you go to the store. I guess that will be the evil farmers gouging the consumer. I say we tax bike and walking paths. Charge a park fee to be able to use the parks, what else can libs begin to pay for. Hmmm, let me see.
paige7: Why are people so opposed to higher gas taxes? It's a USER FEE. Don't want to pay it? - Since we are all about user fees now, lets start taxing the bike lanes, bike paths, and charge the real cost of a bus ride or light rail? Why should those things be subsidized by someone other than the users? Bring on the user fees and dedicate them to where they are generated.
