I watched the last half of the Williams-Stephens match starting shortly before the Williams back injury. It was interesting to note just how difficult it is for a young, talented player to 'break through' and win against one of the elite players in a major tournament. Stephens had big opportunities during the second and third set, yet struggled at many critical points. But now that she prevailed (and did so when Williams was playing with more speed and power during the third set), it will be just as interesting to see how much of a difference that makes in future major matches for Stephens, especially against the bigger names in the women's game. Winning continues to be a learning process. Some get it, some don't. We'll see with Stephens. I wish her luck. She looks to be a great new talent.
