Since it is already illegal, how about enforcing the law that already exists.

Or you could monitor and fire individuals who misuse the database instead of writing a law.

Just more doping thinking by politicians. Let's make a law. No, just notify every state employee that accessing a database for anything other than official business will bring about your immediate termination. Do it and your fired. Period. End of story. We don't need more laws on the books. Just demand some accountability.

They should also legislate against the 25,000 duplicate drivers licenses that can be used for welfare and voter fraud. This is something that is even worse than public employees surfing drivers license records.

The information should be public to begin with, as it once was. That would solve the problem much more cheaply.
