Niklas Backstrom made 23 saves, but it was a botched clearing pass that led to a Nashville goal and the Wild's first loss.

And boom goes the dynamite.

Absolutely brutal play by Backstrom. Spurgeon looks completely outmatched in front of the net. Suter is not going to look that great without a legit partner.

Can't fault Backstrom too much on that play - sure, he played it poorly, but let's not forget that it was Parise's terrible pass that lead to the breakaway. Also, Suter hasn't exactly been impressive through three games - he couldn't connect on an outlet pass to save his life tonight.

The most disturbing thing about this game was Nashville played last night which is unimaginable given the fact that these guys don't even have their legs underneath them yet, please, goaltender blunder, under these circumstances the game should have had more separation in the score for a goaltender blunder to effect a win or loss...... Does anyone realize that the Wild superstar lineup does not have ONE legitimate honest goal 5 on 5 ?, 2 counted but were nothing more than post Christmas miracles...... Like I said, cut this garbage with 1st 2nd 3rd line nonscense, all your doing is making it more difficult for these guys to feel good about their roles on the team, this would not have happened at all or very little under the leadership of Lemaire (DR in his early days). This message must start with the GM/Owner and then you pick a coach that can live out the vision, (Naegele,DR hires JL) The good news with this culture is that Uncle Leo/Fletch have Parise who they can make captain, but that will mean they have to trade Koivou likely. First step, move Parise off from playing with Koivou and Heatley 5 on 5..... Maybe Parise, Seto and Brodziak works, I don't know if that makes Parise 3rd line or what however

Goalie gaff? It was only one third Backstrom's fault. Parise should never pass the puck to a covered defenseman who is also the only last man back on the blueline. Hockey 101. Spurgeon should NEVER skate forward at a breaking-out player or race forward to stick check a puck when he is the only last defenseman on the blueline. Basic defense your squirt kid knows. Gilbert had way to many mental mistakes tonight as well. What a let down. I don't mind being beat in a good game, but we beat ourselves with way too many mental mistakes tonight.

On a positive note, I thought Heatley and Clutterbuck had good games, each in his own style. Bouchard played hard out there too. Seto seemed to stick to it as well. I wish he would get a goal for all his hard work these first few games. Let's come back on Friday!

How many times is Koivu going to be wide open at the dot and try to force a pass to thru three defenders for a tap in. SHOOT THE PUCK. The first line is on the ice to score. Mikko plays with mentality of a third liner. Move him down and move Granlund, a more creative offensive player, up to the first line.

Wild added 1 scorer and Suter. The roster is full of unproven players and prospects are prospects until they prove they belong at this level. 7 goals in 3 games is not much better than last year. Wild management sold a lot of hype and tickets. After a few road games against playoff contenders reality will sink in. This is a marginal playoff team at best. Of course most Wild fans wont agree, but lets see where we are at after 15 games or so.

Uhhh ... so where's the offense ? Looks alot like last year. Not impressed at all so far. Parise is a good add but what's up with the rest of this team ?

strib1991Jan. 22, 1311:29 PM

they have only played 3 games and the whiners are already shedding tears and fears. The Wild will get better ever week, new lines, fresh talent, and a great future. This should be be an entertaining year!
