Do you mean to tell me that they didn't let the "teleprompter President" use his teleprompter during the swearing in? What were they thinking? This guy could not put together more than two sentences without his teleprompter. Come on you handlers get on the ball, help this guy out. Protect him from more embarrassment! Where's Jay Carney? Can't he take the oath for Hussein Obama? Lesson be learned for when he goes through this again 4 years from now. Oh ya, they WILL eliminate term limits for Presidents. He can probably use his executive order to do so. He is getting good at that.

Why is there even any coverage on this item? This is neither newsworthy nor even noteworthy. Why does the press believe it is important to publicize any small slip or misstatement that any of our public figures may make; even if while taking the oath of office? Really - why should we care? What difference did it make in our day today? Cover something important and don't bother to create something just to take up space. This might be the first step to more civility in our discourse if our “free press” would begin to limit itself to publish what is important and not “gotcha” content.

Give him a break. It's tough. There are a lot of them. 57, I think.

I'm more worried about the 5 shot in New Orleans after an MLK parade than this very minor gaffe. And everyone knows Obama meant to say 47 states, not 57. Compared to all of the actual gaffes Bush or Palin made on a regular basis, this is NOT NEWS.

It's hard to say states when you don't believe that the states have any rights. Most of what congress is doing now is taking the rights and responsibilities of the states away from them. His belief is that his and his word alone, rules the land!

@mellers: There has been no report of a shooting at an MLK parade in New Orleans...nothing the Trib website, or CNN....why are you spreading false information????? Perhaps to stir up "outrage" about guns???

I would figure Obama would stumble on the word United, but maybe that is why he stumbled on States because the word United flustered him so.

Perhaps to support the notion that we should place no regulations on guns? Do you know what the common link is that police have uncovered in every shooting? Guns. Go figure.
