This is just great! Put a tax on clothes to make up for the revenue shortfall of the electronic pull tabs needed for Zygi's stadium (aka:'The Peoples Stadium').

Hold on to your wallets!! Dayton with his DFL cronies in both the house and senate will come up with any tax they can muster up.....Your federal and state taxes are going up all in the name of "fair" and "whats right".....

Taxing clothes and cigarettes sounds like a great opportunity to wipe out the budget deficit. Those who want to smoke, overspend on hair care, or spend more on expensive clothes can help shoulder the burden.

I would rather see a 1% increse in the current sales tax instead of adding clothing.

Tax clothing? This is interesting coming from a man whose family made millions of dollars selling clothes. Already our social security taxes just went up and now he wants to tax the one basic need people have to have. Wait till school time and the people who are having problems now clothing their children as it is will be facing another 7% tax, and the average person who has to clothe themselves.

Taxing clothing must be accompanied by a decrease in the tax rate to make it acceptable to me. Clothing and food are the most basic need anyone has. Taxing them seems inappropriate and will only increase regressiveness in our overall tax structure. I'd rather see any service subject to sales tax and an increase income taxes. Better yet, both of those plus a decrease in sales tax rate.

If they widen the sales tax net, hopefully they'll also lower the rate too. I'm glad to see our corporate rate lowered and deductions eliminated. None of our big F500 companies pay 9.8% anyway. Get rid of all the tax breaks and lower the rate. We'll get the same income and make our state more attractive to businesses looking to relocate.

sultan925 The fact that temporary FICA tax decreases expired DO NOT equate to tax increases. Taxing clothing is basically a progressive tax. Although clothing is a basic need, relatively wealthy people spend far, far more on clothing thus making it a progressive tax. If they taxed only items more than $100-150 there would be virtually no tax on lower income people. Targeted services like "hair-care" are just like clothing. Wealthy people pay $75-150 for a haircut or color. me and my friends pay $10-20 and skip the color or do it ourselves. This is another basically progressive tax.

How about a health tax on sodas, chips, candy, etc....?

They may as well cut to the chase and raise everyone's taxes now. It is just a matter of time before the Democrats spend us into prosperity.
