God rest Stan the Man. Humble, caring, scandal free, always had time for the fans. What a stark contrast compared to so many of today's athletes.

My favorite player, none other comes close. He could do it all with a bat. Stan was in a class of his own. Dignity, genuine humility. Stan was among the first to visibly support Jackie Robinson, even though he played with some nasty racists. All-time leader in class.

I grew up in St. Louis in the latter part of Stan's career, and got to meet him when I was about five years old. For a St. Louis kid at the time, that was the equivalent of being introduced to the President, the Pope and Santa Claus all rolled into one, he was that respected. In the office where I worked, the only pictures of people I put up were those of my family, and an autographed picture of Stan. Although he hasn't been on the field in almost 50 years, I can still remember seeing him play the first time I went to the old Busch Stadium. In an era when so many athletes have been proven to have feet of clay, for over 70 years Stan never let the fans down.

Musial was definitely one of the all time greats...Rest in peace guy, along with Earl Weaver....another baseball great.....baseball will miss them both....

In 1948, Musial had a year that was astonishing even by his standards. He led the league in average, hits, runs, OBP, doubles, triples, slugging, and RBI. Had he also led in HR's (he was 3rd), he would pretty much have run the table. Amazingly, he had several other seasons that were almost as good.
