"It wasn't John C. Calhoun calling for South Carolina to stop collecting federal tariffs in the 1830s." Yes, it was! South Carolina was the Nullification State in 1832, the Treason State in 1860, and is the Pariah State today. Please, PLEASE, South Carolina, secede again. That way, we can erect a 50' high fence around you and let you stew a while before we crush you again.

@theolddog- We can't even put up a fence on the Mexican border. You really think anyone would put one up around South Carolina?

We have been brought-up with this vision of Lincoln as a kindly and benevolent leader. But we forget that he started the ball rolling for the Federal Government to unconstitutionally supersede state's rights and to start to propel the office of President into today what is a much more "imperial" presidency that The Founders would ever have wanted. Whatever else you might think of slavery and the Confederate states, Lincoln's actions have had consequences. That said, however unlikely these nullification movements might prove to be, they still serve the very needed function of giving the Federal Government pause in it's overreach of power.

"Please, PLEASE, South Carolina, secede again. That way, we can erect a 50' high fence around you and let you stew a while before we crush you again."-Be careful of what you wish for "olddog". If that happened the U.S Bond market would collapse as foreign holders of U.S debt see the "writing on the wall". The individual states have more leverage than you might think.

Not sure why these tea-party/gun control/anti-Obama extremists are news, especially Mr. LaBue. Did the photographer expect us to take such a person seriously? "McCathy's hearing?" - give me a break. He is an ex-pat from NY, hardly representative of SC. He represents Fox News knuckleheads everywhere. I live in Georgia, right across the border is SC. I buy my gas in SC. There is no groundswell of session here, folks. This is selling the news, not reporting the news.
