Why don't we double down on mental health, with the same zeal that we applying to gun control? No amount of laws on law abiding people will stop wackos.

and I agree with tvzz, the gun manufacturers and ammo makers should be grateful for O's help...and the far right who instilled the irrational fear...great bipartisan cooperation, best thing we have seen in a long time

You know this whole thing about minimizing the amount of ammunition in a clip is just plain dumb. Why, all you have to do is go buy more clips! Trust me, one can change clips in a matter of seconds.

I don't think all gun owners are paranoid. But based on the stories in the press lately I think a large percentage of paranoids are gun owners. No one has proposed taking away handguns or hunting rifles and shotguns. Not one proposal. Even the proposals for restrictions on magazine size and assault weapons face huge resistance in Congress. So this hysterical rush to buy guns is completely irrational.

@ljb6599 "Gun rights are not being taken away...." Agreed, for the criminals, as they don't follow any laws or rights, period. On the law-abiding side, he is proposing to ban the most popular, widely sold gun in the US. Curious if he goes as far as stopping the "manufacture of them going forward" or a pure possession play (which would be a form of confiscation). So rights not being taken away??

@fonebooth "Lordy...nothing like irrational fear.." Irrational?? In NY, the limitation to 7 rounds was on purpose. The Brady Bill during clintons days limited it to 10 (just like Obama) so all mags manufactured for decade were 10. Now, about 95% of all semi auto handguns in NY are rendered useless until they can retool & manufacture 7 rounders. It was a deliberate way to ban handguns, plain and simple. How is this irrational fear???
