DEL MAR and CARDIFF-by-the-SEA are home to some additional North County restaurants that deserve mention. Jake's Del Mar on Coast Blvd is an oceanfront eatery, directly adjacent to a lovely garden park featuring grassy picnic areas and walking trails, that provides good food and friendly service. Pacifica Del Mar, located at Del Mar Plaza and including a spacious outdoor patio with ocean views, hosts a congenial happy hour and specializes in expertly prepared seafood. Cardiff has several oceanfront restaurants, Pacific Coast Grill and The Beach House are my favorites. Cardiff also has a wonderful family friendly public library, distinguished by its contemporary architecture and courteous staff. The library is relatively small compared to others in the San Diego Public Library system, but an outdoor deck addition built last year offers comfortable leisure space with WiFi and an ocean breeze. I share the author's enthusiasm for the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort, and encourage readers to include North County's famous Flower Gardens attraction in their travel itinerary.

CORRECTION: The Flower Fields of Carlsbad is the actual name of the North County attraction that I incorrectly call "The Flower Gardens" in my first post. The Flower Fields is a 50-acre treasure of flower gardens bursting with color, a conservatory and gift shop, and educational resources provided by the University of California Cooperative Extension. The Flower Fields are open this year March 1-May 13, located NE of I-5 and the Palomar Airport Road exit.
