Detroit is currently heading into bankruptcy. It has lost over a quarter of a million people during the last decade. It has been hemorrhaging jobs for decades. Does it seem like this is a great place to spend $140 million on a light rail line? Most of these types of projects require some type of commitment of local funds. I have no idea where a city like Detroit would come up with such money considering that they cannot currently pay their own bills. If you needed any more evidence of wasteful federal spending on transportation, here it is.
The dumbest place to spen $140 million for 3.3 miles of track. How can the city even pay for the annual operating costs?
Private companies are paying for the operating costs.
