But Democrats are united on one point: Obama must use the full weight of his office to get legislation to the Senate floor.

You can be patient this time--the gun worshippers, and I mean those who are gun nuts, are talking so crazy they are scaring common sense into average thoughtful voters.

Sorry, magazine limits are simply unconstitutional and any laws you pass are unenforceable. Please do not put the american people in danger with your rebellion against our constitution. Your political agenda isn't just irresponsible, it's illegal.

A limit on magazine size is a thinly veiled ban on certain types of guns. The NY law banning magazines greater than 7 cartridges in effect bans almost all semi-automatic pistols.

So not allowing citizens from possessing rocket launchers is fine and dandy, but limiting the size of magazines is "unconstitutional?" Can someone please explain the difference?

Will someone please define "assault rife?" If we are going to start approving laws that ban such, it might be handy to define them first. After that, maybe we can get into what makes them different from any other gun of the same size, caliber, and capability, but we can shelf that point for now. Near as I can tell, the working definition of assault rife is "scary-looking gun." That's not good enough.

Hi beebee, it may be helpful for you to look at rocket launchers in two ways: 1. They do not fit the definition of "common use" discussed in the very relevant and important Heller v. Florida; and 2. Rocket launchers launch an rocket containing a highly volatile explosive, and currently there is a generally accepted restriction and prohibition of high-impact explosives (some states even restrict or prohibit types of firecrackers). The magazine is a component of a firearm, and the 2nd Amendment states that the right to bear arms, which reasonably includes the components of arms, shall not be infringed. In addition, as pointed out in another comment, as a component of certain firearms, banning specific versions of magazines is in effect a ban on the firearms in which those magazines are a component. My grandfather's .22 pistol from the early 60's is one example. It has a magazine that holds more than 10 bullets, and a ban on magazines exceeding 10 bullets would make grandpa's backyard tin can plinker an illegal firearm. I hope my response seems reasonable and respectful.

My mistake, not Florida, DC. Some trepidation about imminent Minnesota weather has me pondering the orange state today. ;)

Lets see, when the House could not get EVERY republican to come together and agree on the Tax increase issue, they were divided and in trouble.

I read through this article and all the comments and NOT ONE leftie is coming out and saying that the Democratic party is selfdistructing because they don't ALL agree.

Webster's dictionary has a term of this. - HYPOCRISY!!!!!!

The funny part of the NY, in their zest to pass a law...it made law enforcement criminals, as they carry a 15 round clip. Doh!
