What? The first thing you guys do is start looking for new taxes? Why don't you do a line by line review of existing programs first and cut underperforming programs? You might not even need more tax revenue....

Minnesota is rediculous, we have the 4th highest state tax in the nation and were a billion in the hole, hmmm lets see do you think theres a spending problem. So now the grand plan, which usually is tax the rich or tax an untaxed item, will pull us out of debt. Guess what your taxing purchases over 200 dollars, most will just not spend over that only hurting retailers, brilliant.

I knew that the minute the democrats took over the state that they would start looking at ways to increase taxes. Gee, it's not as if Minnesota is ALREADY one of the highest taxed states in the US. I guess they want to be number 1 in something. Hey you guys at the Capital, do 'ya think you can start looking at ways to CUT SPENDING????

You elected this bunch knowing they would come after your money. If you thought they are only going after someones elses money you are sadly mistaken. So, why do you think the DFL deserves your money? Why do you think they can spend it better than you?

To avoid confusion, are we talking $200 per item or $200 for a cart full? The article does not make it crystal clear and knowing how lawmakers can screw up well intended lagislation without realizing it, it needs to be "crystal clear". If it applies to the whole cart load, we'll be making many trips to the car to stay under the limit,,,,

"To avoid confusion, are we talking $200 per item or $200 for a cart full?"

$200 on an item. Soon will be $150, $100, $50 and then everything. This is how it works. Just a like a "temporary" tax... always is permanent. Anyone who believes a politician is foolish.

I guess that all Minnesotans are discovering that the republicans included YOU when they protected the "RICH" from tax increases. Now that the republicans are no longer the majority, the democrats are raising EVERYONE's taxes. I guess you just became a member of the rich!

Will this lower our property taxes, the ones that went up for all of us while the GOP was on watch? That looked like a tax increase to me!

texas_technoman - My property taxes skyrocketed when the DFL was in charge of the state for the last 38 of 40 years. Are you new to this state? Do you know the game Ventura played with the DFL to artificially lower property taxes? Do you know what the trade off was? Look it up.

How about going back to the origianl 3 percent sales tax and following the rules? It was supposed to stop after a few years. Instead we hear 6.875 percent. How about the extras that cities, counties, and every other local government unit is charging? Time to cut the tax completely or better yet tax only paper and ink since all the newspaper boards seem to support it.
