Replace the batteries with in-cad or lead acid sealed batteries. It's not a weight issue. How many tons does the plane weigh?
I wonder if the planes were built at the Everett plant or Charleston or both.
The reason they picked lithium ion batteries is the very reason they cannot use lead acid. Unfortunately lithium ion is a problem that may be hard to resolve, they do not seem to be infallible at this point.
surprising that they allow them to be used in the construction / build of an airplane, since you can't bring a spare camera battery on the plane anymore unless it is in the camera or in a special travel case - since they had found that even a small external L-ih battery could cause a fatal incident at altitude.
THIS is the arc of air travel. More capability = more risk. When WWII bombers were controlled by wire cables they were not as risky as big commercial jets with hydraulics were not as risky as current planes with both hydraulic / electric actuators are not as risky as litium batteries. However, you can't get more capability with tonnage carried long distance with less fuel except by using newer technology which DOES carry downsides. Fatigue failure of aluminum body aircraft is well understood. To learn everything reality can throw at carbon-fiber bodies means horrible lessons will be learned too.
