One more person that has FAILED to read the Hunting and Trapping regulations manual that clearly shows how to remove the trap in less 30 seconds and how to save your dog in less than 10.

bebebigalo is one reason I don't go out in the woods during hunting season. Morons like him don't care who they hurt.

In the early 70s as a teen I ran a trap line in Plymouth & Maple Grove. I can assure you that Conibear-style traps are the most humane way to take a muskrat or a mink. They will die in less than a minute and they wont mess up the pelt. But you do need to set them where dogs don't normally go.

I hunt. I have permit to carry. I understand heritage of trapping. If someone traps my dog, "WE" are going to have a problem.

The main reason why some trappers use body grip traps for bobcats is because they don't have to check them daily. They can leave them unchecked for three days. Convenient for them and deadly for our dogs. I can't believe that Mr. Abraham would say the DNR isn't sure there is a problem. Trappers need to stop forcing hunters and dog owners to choose between our dogs and supporting trapping. There are 2 million dog owners in MN and about 8,000 licensed trappers.

In order to save your dog from dying in a body grip trap you need to find it before it suffocates in the trap. You also need to be lucky enough that your dog hasn't sustained fatal injuries from the trap that is designed to kill quickly. The MN Trappers Association should be forced to put a disclaimer on their body grip diagram that they pay to put in our hunting regs. It should read "Even knowing how to remove this trap will result in the majority of dogs dying when caught in a body grip trap".

Don't take your dog out to kill other animals. Problem solved.

Well said fishhead. I believe it is in the trappers interest to find a solution to this problem during this discussion process as otherwise the legislators will simply pass new rules to satisfy dog owners. The current rules are a joke. States like wisconsin have more restrictions on these traps and there are fewer accidents. I do all my grouse hunting in Wi after trapping season begins. Not perfect but at least the odds are significantly lower that my dog is hurt. I also cant believe abraham says he isn't sure a problem exists!

Mullenschults reaction is fairly common but many of the injured or killed dogs are simply out for a walk with their owners.
