Is it possible that you are actually a third wheel on their dates and you don't realize it? Maybe you could just plan on some one on one time with your friend-- and not spend so much time with him when he is with the boyfriend. Your friend may feel stuck in the middle, and doesn't want to hurt your feelings so he turns their dates into "group activities." In which case, what do the other members of the group think about him? Because if he truly is that obnoxious you can't be the only one who notices. If on the other hand the group activities are just the three of you, you need to back off and give them some alone time.
