ALBANY, N.Y. - As New York lawmakers approved the nation's toughest gun control laws, the first since the Connecticut school shooting, gun enthusiasts lined up to criticize the state for what they called an overreach driven by political ambition.

ABOUT TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS AGO, a true American Patriot by the name of Thomas Jefferson warned the people that this is a fear and a challenge the people will always have to face and be prepared to defend, if indeed they wanted to keep their FREEDOM. “And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.” And at about the same time, a different great Patriot and defender of Freedom, Benjamin Franklin wrote: “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” How would you measure-up prior to 1776? Would you have been a Patriot? Or would you have gone along to get along? As for my opening comment on the Second Amendment affecting the world: As long as the Second Amendment keeps the American Dream alive and vital, America will be there to keep the world FREE. It’s as simple as that. Best Regards . .

Even if this legislation actually did curb violence, which it wont, it is bad. Oh, sure; it'll be more good news for the state of Georgia...1,000 new jobs at the new relocated Remington Arms factory, but it's a real tragidy to see the people of New York pay the price of their freedom for having elected leftists to run their state.

NY Law Review- 1) Can I still hunt? Yes. 2) Can I still defend my home? Yes. 3) Can I sell a gun to a crazy person? No. 4) Are my guns locked up? Yes. Yep, I'm good with that. The 2nd amendment is not absolute and it's nuts to think it is. Even the 1st amendment has limitations--you can't yell 'fire' in a crowded theater.

Oh, please. New York has already had some of the strictest gun control in the nation for decades! Raise your hand if you've felt absolutely safe walking NY streets over the last few decades! Anyone? Bueller? This is nothing more than impotent political grandstanding, which along with already existing gun laws, will continue to be scoffed-at by criminals and crazies. Danged-right many of these pusillanimous politicians are going to loose their jobs, next election!

NYC with tougher state gun laws had already dropped it's gun homicide rate from 800+ to a litle over 200 per year.

So if a rifle has a pistol grip it is somehow more dangerous than a rifle without a pistol grip? What about a lever-action carbine that can hold over 15-shells??...these have been around since the 1870's.

The liberal gun-haters don't care about constitutional rights. These new 'restrictions' are blatantly unconstitutional and should immediately be challenged in court. Enough is enough.

Then they came for the assault rifle owners, and I didn't speak out because I didn't own an assualt rifle. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me...

Freakonomics authors Steven Levitt and Steven Dubner attribute the drop in crime to the legalization of abortion in the 1970s, as they suggest that many would-be neglected children and criminals were never born.
