Every one of the 20 million illegal aliens in the US will have a similar story. I do not thus understand what the point of these opinion pieces is. I am myself a legal immigrant and naturalized US citizen that came to the US on a legal work permit. I also know that the waiting time for family sponsorship is anywhere from 1 year to over 20 years for sponsoring an adult brother or sister. So should people just not wait and sneak in and have some one write a sob story? Unlike Australia and Canada which has almost 85% of the immigrants who are skills based, the US immigration is only 7% based on skills immigration. The remaining immigration is family based including parents, who typically become medicaid beneficiaries as soon as they naturalize. US immigration as it stands now is based on the skill one can use to dodge the US border agents and sneak in to the country illegally. With each successive bouts of legalization, the incentive to sneak will only rise.
