WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama had a clear political edge in his fight with Republicans over the fiscal cliff, and used it to his advantage. In the upcoming battle over federal borrowing and spending, the leverage will be more evenly divided and the outcome less predictable.

Obama has zero leverage, that being said he will win because the GOP RINOS will fold like a tent and the spending and no cutting and increasing debt will continue as politicians vie for reelection while the country burns.

This is simple bargain till the last minute and use the 14th amendment to raise limits. Then let the court decide if it is acceptable. It will be found so.

Let Obama break the law and raise the limit on his own, than get a petition going to impeach him.

Obama treats the US debt like many of the young people of today. Reach the limit of that credit card? Just get another credit card.

firefight41: "Let Obama break the law and raise the limit on his own, than get a petition going to impeach him." Have you looked at how many votes the GOP has in the Senate? Something less than 50, last time I checked. If the Republicans want to bring down our economy again, like they do on a regular basis, have at it! 2014 elections will send them packing once more.

windigolake " If the Republicans want to bring down our economy again, like they do on a regular basis, have at it! 2014 elections will send them packing once more.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."........ Barrack H Obama March 2006

That Debt vote was for $542B in a credit card increases! Should we limiting this years increase to the $542B mark too that Obama adamantly protested?

"if my Republican friends believe that increasing our debt by almost $800 billion today and more than $3 trillion over the last five years is the right thing to do, they should be upfront about it. They should explain why they think more debt is good for the economy.........How can the Republican majority in this Congress explain to their constituents that trillions of dollars in new debt is good for our economy? How can they explain that they think it’s fair to force our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren to finance this debt through higher taxes. That’s what it will have to be. Why is it right to increase our nation’s dependence on foreign creditors?.........They should explain this. Maybe they can convince the public they’re right. I doubt it. Because most Americans know that increasing debt is the last thing we should be doing. After all, I repeat, the Baby Boomers are about to retire. Under the circumstances, any credible economist would tell you we should be reducing debt, not increasing it.Democrats won’t be making argument to supper this legalization, which will weaken our country. Weaken our county." Harry Reid 2006

I'm sure Harry Reid and all the Senate democrats will support spending cuts and reducing debt as he proposed in 2006 otherwise I expect Harry out on the stump telling America why its important t o raise out debt by trillions!

Everyone knows that they will again raise the debt and the gov't will again increase their rate of spending. The republicans joined the democrats in their showing that votes are more important than our country when they agreed to the "fiscal cliff" legislation that increased revenue by 60 Bilioin and increased spending by 125 BILLION. tell me, how is that dealing with the real cliff. That being the pending Bankruptcy of our country because no one wants to cut any spending at all.!
