Imagine that: A medication intended to help a patient get a full night's rest can still affect the patient 8 hours later. It works, so it must be time to change it.
The FDA is filled with former Big-Pharma employees. They will do whatever the corporate powers tell them to do. So sad.
I've suffered for years with chronic insomnia. My 12.5 mg. zolpidem allows me get several hours of sleep. I'm retired, so I don't drive in the morning, and I've never had morning drowsiness. Three weeks ago my insurance company informed me they will only pay for 90 pills in 2013. Now the FDA is going to cut my dosage in half. Well, hopefully my insurance provider will pay for an extended visit to a sleep clinic, or perhaps I can drink until I pass out and that will be safer.
Oh and one more thing - my insurance company and the FDA suggests that I discuss all this with my doctor. Hahahahaha. My doctor does not speak to me on the phone, nor does he book appointments for a discussion. Suggestions?
Glad I am healthy and have no sleep issues. Clear conscience I suppose.
All drugs are poisons with beneficial side-effects. Don't point chemicals into your body unless its a last resort.
Same drug-half the dosage-same price: the drug company wins. Problem is when you have patients with cirrhosis/sleep inversion and you have been on the higher dosage for several years and you are cut down by 50%. Who pays for the funeral?
Of course the drug lobbyists want to cut the dose in half so they can sell twice as many at the same price and double their revenue! DUH!
Same drug, half the dosage...twice the price for the same affect: the drug company wins, the lobbyists win, the politicians win and you, the patient loses!
Morning hangover" has always been the horrible side effect of over-the-counter sleep aids. For me, Sonata (generic: zaleplon) is the Rx sleep aid to take. It has only a 4-hour life span and therefore no morning hangover (provided you have at least 4 hours to sleep).
